I am married and the mother of two adult children. I grew up in the South Bay and graduated from LAUSD schools. I earned an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts at Los Angeles Harbor College, and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies and Teaching Credential from California State University Dominguez Hills and am lifetime Pi Lambda Theta member.
While attending college, I worked as a teacher assistant at an elementary school helping students in all grade levels as well as working in our school’s science lab for several years. I now teach at the middle school I attended in my youth. Over the past decade, I have taught English, US History, Science and Health.
Prior to beginning my career in education with LAUSD, I spent many years working in the private sector. My earliest employment opportunities were characterized by jobs often associated with the teenage years. Several years later, while my children were young, I worked two jobs much of the time; in entry-level office positions by day, and in the restaurant industry as a server. For many years I worked evenings, weekends and holidays; and I have not forgotten the challenges working families face.
Additionally, I have volunteered for over 20 years with Southland Collie Rescue, as an area coordinator, board member and secretary. I volunteered with the Los Angeles Animal Services Harbor Animal Shelter for a number of years, helping with mobile pet adoptions and working to get companion animals out of the shelter and into loving homes or rescue. I have also independently rescued and re-homed many cats and dogs over the years as well, helping pets and the people that love them in my community.
